Amar Dedic: Return to Salzburg – But the farewell is approaching again!
Amar Dedic, the 22-year-old right-back, has ended his time at FC Red Bull Salzburg after almost a decade and is moving to Olympique Marseille. The player, who has been playing for Salzburg since he was 14 and has gone through all age groups at the Red Bull Football Academy, will be transferred for a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros. This decision was made in the winter of 2025 when the new head coach Thomas Letsch removed some dissatisfied players from the squad. Dedic was determined to take the next step in his career.
During his time with Salzburg, the defender scored eight goals and provided 15 assists in 95 appearances, helping him win a league title and a cup. He began his time with the Red Bulls in the academy, where he won three titles and played 50 games for FC Liefering. In search of more playing time in a bigger league, the decision was made to transfer to Marseille, where the club is currently in second place in Ligue 1. Rouven Schröder, Red Bull Salzburg's sporting director, emphasized supporting talented players to play in the top leagues, making Dedic's move a logical step.
Review and return option
Although Dedic did not have lasting success in Ligue 1, Salzburg secured a buyback option for 100,000 euros. The club is reportedly planning to potentially bring him back. However, Dedic is currently not appearing in the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup and has instead been registered with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) for the national league.
In addition to Dedic, Salzburg have also signed experienced right-back Stefan Lainer, highlighting the possibility of a shake-up in the squad. Lainer's signing could be seen as a strategic move to strengthen the defense and give Dedic a more realistic chance of sustained success in the new environment.
Market situation in football
The transfer market in football is dynamic. While some clubs such as Bayern Munich invest high transfer fees, the financial balance between clubs often remains a challenge. In the 2024/2025 season, Bundesliga clubs recorded a transfer deficit as expenses exceeded income.
In addition to the independent transfers of players, the dynamics in the football market also illustrate the widely varying transfer fees. Only a few clubs, like Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 with the record transfer fee for Neymar, can raise three-digit millions. Despite the high expenditure, sporting success is not always directly related to financial investments, which makes the complexity clearly visible.
With Dedic and several new additions to the squad, the future of Red Bull Salzburg and the individual players will continue to be exciting.
