In the early morning hours of February 11, 2025, the city of Wels in Upper Austria was hit by a massive power failure. At around 5 a.m., electricity for numerous households, companies and traffic light systems was canceled. Only sporadic emergency light sources illuminated the darkness. The fire brigade had to deploy at the same time to free a person from a stuck elevator, reports Fireworld . After about 45 minutes, the technicians managed to fix the problems, and the districts could gradually be connected to the power grid. Where exactly the failure came from remained unclear for the time being.

On Friday, wind speeds of up to 159.5 km/h were measured in Galzig, which led to power outages in up to 12,000 households. Several municipalities were temporarily without electricity, including the Stubai Valley, where a fallen tree damaged a power line. In various areas, especially around the Achensee, the lights were also extinguished for a short time. The Tinetz technicians were in constant use with 80 emergency services to fix the damage.
The extreme weather conditions did not only bring disorders of the power supply. Numerous streets in all of Tyrol were closed due to the increased avalanche danger, landslide or smooth road. Several communities, including Kaisers and Gramais, were temporarily unavailable. Those responsible warn of a further increase in the risk of avalanches and advise caution, since the conditions will remain tense until at least Saturday. The situation not only promotes security, but also requires patience from the citizens and travelers in the region.
