Serious accident in the Brenner Base Tunnel: construction worker injured!
A serious accident on one of the most prestigious construction sites, the Brenner Base Tunnel, caused excitement and concern on Wednesday morning. At around 7 a.m., an incident occurred during a routine blast under the Siller Berg in which a construction worker was injured. How today.at reported, it was initially unclear how serious the injuries actually were, but there was no danger to life. The man was immediately treated by the emergency doctor present and taken to the Innsbruck clinic. An extensive deployment of police, fire and rescue services ensured that the situation was brought under control within one and a half hours.
The Brenner Base Tunnel construction site is no stranger to incidents. Two fatal accidents were reported there last year. A 57-year-old German worker was killed by a train, and just a few months later a 41-year-old forklift driver lost his life in an accident with a truck. These tragic events cast a shadow over the ambitious project that is supposed to represent one of the most important connections between Austria and Italy. WDR also reported on the dangers that are always present in such large-scale projects and underlined the responsibility of construction management to ensure the safety of workers.
