Fire brigades sound the alarm: embers in the hay bale claim a cow's life!
A dramatic operation by the fire brigade recently occurred in the Pitzenhöfe district of Wenner, where thick smoke from a burning block of hay alerted the rescue workers. In addition to the Wenns volunteer fire department, the fire departments from Imst and Jerzens were also called in. Due to the heavy smoke, respiratory protection had to be worn. According to police reports, a defective cable drum was identified as the cause of the fire. Fortunately, the embers were quickly extinguished, but one cow was killed. Thanks to the rapid response of the emergency services, five more animals were rescued from the free-roaming stable in time. No one was injured, so everyone involved remained unharmed tirol.orf.at reported.
As part of a joint operation, the fire departments from Arzl, Piller, Jerzens and Wenns recently rehearsed an emergency in a different scenario. An extensive exercise was carried out in Bichl, in which a total of around 105 firefighters and 9 vehicles were involved. The emergency services took part in two extinguishing lines with four portable pumps, which together built a feeder line of 1.1 km to the fire object. Under the leadership of Lukas Scheiber, the fire chief of Wenns, the trainer praised the excellent cooperation of the fire departments, who masterfully implemented both an internal and an external attack. The exercise lasted around an hour and a half, after which the fire department invited Wenns to a friendly snack in the fire hall and informed him about it meinkreis.at.
