Two brothers in Wildschönau: Rescue to Alpine Nutrition!
Wildschönau, Österreich - yesterday, on February 27, 2025, two Czech brothers in the Skijuwel ski area in the Wildschönau experienced a dramatic situation. The two athletes, 21 and 17 years old, came into an alpine emergency when leaving the slopes. After the connecting armchair railway was already out of operation, they tried to navigate to the next middle station with their cell phone. They got into an increasingly steeper terrain and tried to continue the descent on foot. Due to the extreme gradient and the darkness, they were forced to make the emergency call. The mountain rescue, supported by the Kufstein alpine police, was able to rescue the brothers despite adverse weather conditions without injuries, such as 5 min reported.
on the same day, just a few hours later, a 53-year-old Dutch was on a snowshoe hike in the Venice group in East Tyrol when he was surprised by a strong snowfall and bad view. He was exhausted due to the adverse conditions and put an emergency call to his wife, who immediately informed the Tyrol control center. The mountain rescue prevailed hurried to help and, after reaching him with a cable car and skis, brought him to a nearby hut where he was looked after. On February 28, 2025, he was safely brought back to the valley, such as alpenverein.de reported.
These incidents underline the importance of emergency numbers in the mountains. In Europe, the number 112 is available to help people to help in crisis situations, and this is also essential for mountain athletes. There are also special emergency numbers for mountain rescue services in different countries that can be helped directly, which accelerates the use in an emergency.
