Vienna Opera Ball 2025: A festival full of shine and security!

The Vienna Opera Ball 2025, the grandiose event of the extra class, is just around the corner. This evening, February 27, the Vienna State Opera becomes the glamorous backdrop for the social event, which attracts over 5,000 guests. It is not only an important cultural event, but also an organizational mammoth task for the Viennese police, which is preparing for the celebrations with an impressive security concept. "The police officers make a significant contribution to the success of the opera ball through their efforts," said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, who, together with the state police president Gerhard Pürstl, evaluated the preparations on site, as ots.at reported.

Despite a tense security situation in Europe after the terrorist attacks last year, there is no concrete threat to Austria. In order to ensure the security of the guests, several hundred police officers are deployed, as well as experts from the Cobra operating command and special units. The focus is on preventing possible riots, while at the same time the festive character of the ball is preserved. MeinDägäctor emphasizes the anticipation for the first time after the death of the famous master builder Richard "Mörtel" Lugner takes place.

stars and political prominence

The question of whether the opera ball will still have the same shine after Lugner's death hovers in the air. The evening sees fewer stars, but an impressive political presence. Among the guests are Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, interim chancellor Alexander Schallenberg and Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig, who will step on the red carpet with Eduard Strauss, a descendant of Waltz king Johann Strauss. Despite the challenges, the Lugner family does not bring a Hollywood star this year, but the American DJ Alec Monopoly, whose works are already valued by many celebrities.

A total of around 5,150 ball guests are expected, including 160 pairs of debutants and 150 musicians. The ball is celebrated in the sign of Johann Strauss's 200th birthday, and a special highlight is the new choreography to the Kaiserwalzer under the direction of ballet director Martin Schläpfer. 395 euros are due for the tickets, 35 euros of which will be donated to charity, while lodge prices have increased by up to 1,000 euros. That evening, the Viennese opera ball is staged both as a VIP tent full of glamor as well as as a location of important social developments.
