Fatal attack on Kyiv: worst since 2024

The number of fatalities through the severe bombing of Russia on the Ukrainian capital has reached 31 this week. This marks the most fatal individual attack on Kiev within a year, said Ukrainian officials on Friday. The vast majority of the dead fell victim to a single attack on a apartment block.

rescue measures and number of victims

The corpses of at least 28 people have recovered from the destroyed residential building, including five children, the state emergency service (SES) told CNN. At least 159 people were injured in the explosion.

The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, said: "This is the highest number of injured children in one night in Kiev since the comprehensive invasion of the invasion." More than 100 rescue workers hurried to the western district of Sviatoshynskyi, worked through all night and removed over 2,000 tons of debris while looking for survivors.

Details about the attack

The building was one of the dozens of places in the Ukrainian capital, which were hit in the nightly attack by Russian rockets and drones. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the military administration of Kiev, described the attack as a "Direct Hit" on the nine -story residential building, which was met shortly before 5 a.m.

President Wolodymyr Selenskyj said on Friday: "Once again, this hideous attack by Russia shows the need for increased pressure on Moscow and additional sanctions. No matter how much the Kremlin denies its effectiveness, sanctions are - and they have to be reinforced."

attacks on other regions

In July, Russia used over 5,100 sliding bombs against Ukraine alone, more than 3,800 "Shaheeds" (drones) and almost 260 rockets of different types, added Selenskyj.

Russia also attacked the Donetsk and Charkiw regions on Thursday night. A hit for a five -story apartment block in the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, which partially destroyed the building, demanded three lives. Further attacks on Ukraine followed on Friday night, in which at least six civilians were killed and 27 more injured.

international reactions

The air strikes of the Kremlin on Ukrainian population centers have increased significantly this year. These rely heavily on inexpensive drone swarms that are intended to overwhelm Ukraine's air defense.

Analysis of the attacks

drone and rocket attacks are done almost every night, with significantly larger volleys being fired regularly. The period between large -scale volley attacks has been shortened from about one month to up to two days, as a new analysis of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) results.

At the same time, the number of ammunition that Russia uses in these larger attacks rose out of around 100 huge ammunition units in recent years to almost 300 ammunition units in 2025, according to the CSIS analysis.
