Siberian spruces are conquering the living room: a new Christmas tree trend!

The 2024 Christmas tree season has taken an interesting turn! A new trend has established itself in the municipality of Königsfeld: Siberian spruce has become the secret favorite. At times, the Nordmann fir dominated the sales figures, but the slimmer spruces often fit better in the cozy corners of the living room, according to Christmas tree grower Eckhard Scherwinski, who sells his trees in Bülow. This year he is bringing large spruce trees measuring two meters or more to Bülow, where active citizens will sell them to the residents. However, there is a surprising turnaround: the demand for smaller trees has increased, even though larger specimens were initially favored. Even on December 24th, buyers keep coming at short notice, reports Scherwinski, who delivers his trees directly to their homes.

Christmas tree production in Switzerland is optimistic about the future

However, price pressure from imported trees, particularly from Denmark, remains a pressing issue. This challenge accompanies producers every year, but being part of a regional supply and the freshness of the local trees keep demand stable. According to Häberli, many customers prefer Swiss trees due to shorter transport routes and guaranteed freshness. Swiss Christmas tree producers are currently seeing an opportunity for increasing demand for local trees due to the Corona experience, which could have a positive impact on sales, as the farmers' newspaper reported.

It remains crucial for producers to trim the trees at the right time to ensure the best quality for the holidays, while hosts in the living rooms of the Königsfeld community look forward to their festive trees.
