Austria's ski stars disappoint Bormio: worst result ever!
On December 28, 2024, the alpine ski competitions made headlines: In Bormio, Switzerland triumphed with a double victory in the men's descent, while the women in Zagreb won the Slovak Petra Vlhova their fourth World Cup slalom this season. In Bormio, the departure took place under difficult conditions: the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr, who was quickly traveling in the upper section of the route, fell at eighth place due to an error at the transition. This was the best result for the ÖSV this year, which the team disappointed, since in the previous 31 departures there was always an Austrian in the top 5, such as Vol.at reported.
The Swiss Dominik Paris as a local hero could not assert itself and missed the points as 31 after the successes in Beaver Creek and Val Gardena, the strong Swiss team, led by the new World Cup winner Monney, demonstrated its dominance. The concerned news was the severe fall of last year's winner Cyprien Sarrazin, who had to be treated in the hospital and is in the artificial coma.
