Kläbo triumphs at home World Cup: Norway celebrates 200. Gold medal!
At the Nordic World Ski Championship in Trondheim, the Norwegian cross-country star Johannes Kläbo caused a sensation. With an outstanding target sprint, he secured his second gold medal and also prepared Norway the anniversary of the 200th gold medal at these world championships. In the target arrival over the 50 km distance, Mika Vermeulen from the ÖSV had a behind 57.1 seconds. Vermeulen, for which this result is the best of his previous World Cup career, was optimally started in the final phase, but lost the connection to the leaders in the last round and finally ended the race as ninth, like vienna.at reported.
Both athletes at the World Cup in Falun shone before. Teresa Stadlober ran in the 10 km race in the classic fifth place and only missed the podium by 27 seconds, while Vermeulen returned from a seventh place after his recovery. Stadlober, who had recently trained in Switzerland, was particularly pleased about her performance: "Now being back in the race and then getting fifth in the individual start, of course I was very happy," she said. The conditions were challenging because the trail was very soft due to snowfalls (source: Sn.at ).
For the next competitions, both Stadlober and Vermeulen have high goals. While Stadlober is preparing for the World Cup, which begins on February 26 in Trondheim, Vermeul is planning to reach a place in the upcoming skating competition with mass start. "The route has many long descents to offer, which is why the field usually stays together until the end and the mass start race ends in a mass sprint," said Vermeulen, giving an outlook on the challenges that await it.
