US citizens arrested in Russia for possession of drugs, report media
The Russian customs authority has arrested a 28-year-old US citizen at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow for possessing cannabis jam, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
Detailed information on arrest
On February 7, the customs officials from Vnukovo stopped a 28-year-old US citizen who carried jam with cannabinoids in his luggage. The customs authority announced Tass that criminal proceedings were initiated against the man. He threatens possible punishments from 5 to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles (approx. $ 10,884).
reactions and legal consequences
CNN is currently trying to contact the US State Ministry with regard to the arrested US citizen. According to the reports from Tass, the US citizen was stopped at customs control after he had arrived from Istanbul with a flight. A drug search dog called Eureka had marked one of his luggage as suspicious, whereupon the inspectors found two plastic containers and a ziploc bag with sweets.
chemical analysis and further knowledge
The chemical analysis showed according to the customs authorities that the containers found contained "narcotic substances of the cannabinoid group", reported TASS. This arrest again raises questions about the international use of cannabis and its legal persecution, especially for tourists and travelers.
