Trump: Putin announces response to Ukraine drone strikes
President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, but he doesn't expect that conversation to immediately lead to an end to the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian drone attack on Russian air bases
The call took place after one daring Ukrainian drone attack on Russian air field monitoring sites at the weekend. Trump reported that he spoke with Putin about this incident during the 75-minute conversation.
Discussion of the attacks
"We discussed Ukraine's attack on Russia's docked aircraft, as well as various other attacks taking place by both sides," Trump wrote Truth Social. “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace.”
Putin's reaction and the Iran discussion
Trump mentioned that Putin emphasized the need to respond to the recent attack on the airfields. Trump also spoke about Iran and efforts to conclude a nuclear deal with Tehran.
Nuclear threat from Iran
"We also discussed Iran and that time is running out for Iran's decision on nuclear weapons, which must be made quickly!" he continued. “I told President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and we agreed on this.”
Cooperation with Russia and Iran
Trump also said that Putin would likely take part in the talks with Iran. "President Putin suggested that he would participate in discussions with Iran and that he might be helpful in finding a quick solution. In my opinion, Iran has waited too long on this very important matter and we need a definitive answer in a short time!" said Trump.
