Russia warns: NATO bereavement zone is considered a declaration of war!
In the current situation around the Ukraine conflict, the role of NATO is increasingly controversial. Russia sees NATO as a direct party in the ongoing conflict. Dmitri Medvedev, Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council, emphasized that a NATO flight ban zone over Ukraine would be regarded as a declaration of war. This statement comes from Kleine Zeitung, which also reported that Medvedev described the idea of such a ban and the intercept of Russian drones by NATO forces.
In addition, Medvedev warned European countries of the consequences if they are trying to confiscate frozen Russian assets. He said that Russia would follow the EU countries "by the end of the century". The background to this threat is the latest considerations by the EU Commission to use the income from these assets to finance aid measures in Ukraine.
Military location and NATO presence
In the meantime, the military situation in Ukraine is still described tense. The Ukrainian armed forces are making progress in the northern region of Sumy, while Russian troops are trying to consolidate themselves there. President Wolodymyr Selenskyj also reported considerable losses by the Russian armed forces in the Donetsk and Charkiw regions. According to reports from t-online, however, Russia reports some terrain in the Oblast dnipropetrowsk.
The American secret services make it clear that they keep limited Russian operation in Donbas more likely than a large-scale invasion. Nevertheless, the western countries still fear escalation if Russia continues to put pressure on Ukraine. Transitional reports indicate serious airspace injuries in Poland and incidents in Romania, which caused Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to emphasize the need for increased air defense at the NATO limit.
Sanctions and international reactions
The focus is also on international sanctions against Russia. US President Donald Trump emphasized that the United States would do further sanctions depending on a tougher approach in Europe. The pressure on Russia must be increased, in particular to contain the country's military activities and achieve the goal of a more stable European security regulations. This also includes an improvement in NATO's defense ability.
In addition to the military developments, sources report on the decision of Russia to consider the 2008 NATO summit as a threat. This declaration had promised Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO. Among other things, Moscow calls for a binding moratorium to prevent NATO east expansion, which has so far been rejected by the West.
The current situation illustrates the complexity of the situation in Ukraine and the serious geopolitical implications of such a conflict. NATO and Russia are at a critical turning point where arms control measures and confidence-building steps are considered essential for stability in Europe.
