Gabard threatens Obama-Officials with a criminal complaint because of the 2016 election
The director of the national intelligence services, Tulsi Gabbard, threatened to refer former officials of the Obama administration to the Ministry of Justice on criminal prosecution on Friday. This was done in connection with the assessment of the secret services on Russian influence on the US elections in 2016 and represents another example of how official supposed enemies of President Donald Trump attack.
Discharge of documents
Gabbard published documents that they believe proved that the secret service officers of the Obama administration have "created and politicized intelligence data in order to lay the foundation stone for the FBI investigations in relation to Trump. In a Post Gabard said that "she would be handed over to the Doj for the punishment for criminal law" without naming specific people. A reference to criminal law does not necessarily mean that the Ministry of Justice is investigating or prosecution.
Investigations against former intelligence manager
At the beginning of this month, CNN reported that the FBI examined the former CIA director John Brennan and former FBI director James Comey for possible false information before the congress after a reference from the current CIA director John Ratcliffe. This was also related to the intelligence assessment of Russian influence on the elections. Both Gabard and Ratcliffe published documents this month to undermine the assessment of the intelligence group from 2017, according to Russia, intervene in the US elections in 2016 and tried to help Trump to win over Hillary Clinton. This conclusion contributed to Trump's long -lasting skepticism.
Criticism of Gabard's action
other checks, such as a Bipartisan report by the Senate Intelligence Committee from 2020, did not find any such problems and supported the assessment of the intelligence group to the Russian influence on the US elections.
Democrats criticized Gabard's publication on Friday and described them as an attempt to "rewrite the story". The Senator Mark Warner from Virginia, the leading Democrat on the committee, said in a statement: "The Senate Intelligence Committee carried out a Bipartisan investigation in which hundreds of thousands of documents were checked and witnesses were heard for several years. The unanimous, bi-partisan conclusion was that Russia was involved in the 2016 elections. Another example of how the DNI tries to manipulate the facts, to rewrite the story and to undermine confidence in the secret services that it should lead. ”
Investigations into the Russia connection of the Trump campaign
The FBI's criminal investigations to the connections of the Trump campaign to Russia began in 2016 and extended to Trump's first term. They were again the subject of investigations by the inspector of the Ministry of Justice and by the special investigator John Durham, who was used by Attorney General Bill Barr to also examine the handling of the secret services that led to the Trump Russia investigations.
The Durham investigations ended without the misconduct of misconduct in the handling of the secret services, but brought the indictment against three people, including a former FBI lawyer, who is guilty, in a surveillance application that was directed against an employee of the Trump campaign.
