Austria's new three-person coalition: Common solutions to crises!

On Monday, March 3, 2025, the newly educated three-way coalition from the ÖVP, the SPÖ and the NEOS made far-reaching decisions. In a joint interview in ORF, Chancellor Christian Stocker, Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler and Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger explained that family reunification would be stopped immediately. Stocker emphasized that this measure was necessary to avoid the strain on the Austrian education system, which is already heavily used. "We are temporarily exposed to the family reunification with immediate effect. Now," says Stocker, as well as Today. reported.

The political landscape has changed significantly in Austria. The new government plans to stuff a significant budget -hole and to realize ambitious projects. "We have developed a common program and decided to do the right thing for Austria," said Stocker, who admitted that he did not expect to be Chancellor at the end of 2024. Despite the challenges - including the enormous government budget, the coalition was determined to want to work. "The length of the government bank is our smallest challenge," added Stocker. A uniform course in migration policy was also caught: "Nobody wants to experience a situation like 2015," said Meinl-Reisinger, while working together on a solution to the current problem to avoid overloading the systems in Austria.

take on joint responsibility

The three top politicians also emphasized their responsibility for the future of Austria and that new elections were refrained from in the ORF interview. "People want a government -capable government," emphasized Stocker. Bablers and Meinl-Reisinger joined this view by highlighting the goal of not only being there for their own electorate, but to rule for all Austrians. In a time of geopolitical changes, the government is clearly geared towards Europe. "A crystal-clear commitment to Europe", as Meinl-Reisinger put it. This is intended to underline how important a strong European community is to ensure the security of everyone together, even in tense times such as the present, in which the neutrality of Austria is put to the test more than ever, as krone.at reported.
