Catastrophe in Valencia: 205 dead after devastating floods!
The devastating floods in Spain have already claimed over 200 lives!
Spain is on the brink of the abyss! The devastating floods triggered by heavy rains this week have turned the nation into a nightmare. With a shocking death toll of 205, including 202 in Valencia, this is the worst natural disaster Europe has seen since the 1970s. Rescue teams are desperately fighting to reach areas cut off by floodwaters as hope for survivors dwindles.
In the Valencia region, the epicenter of this disaster, hundreds of soldiers have been mobilized to search for missing people and help survivors. The situation is catastrophic: entire villages are without electricity, water and any help. “A whole year of rain fell in just one day,” Al Jazeera reporter Sonia Gallego reports from Chiva, where the destruction is unimaginable. “We don’t know if there were people in the missing houses.” The mayor of Chiva, Amparo Fort, speaks of an indescribable loss – “entire houses have disappeared”.
Rescue operations and other dangers
Spanish security forces have already rescued over 4,500 people from the floods, but the number of missing remains uncertain. 1,700 emergency unit soldiers are deployed, with another 500 soldiers expected to join on Saturday. But time is of the essence, because new storms have already been announced! The Spanish Meteorological Agency has issued warnings for heavy rain in Tarragona and the Balearic Islands.
The streets of Valencia are still blocked with rubble and vehicles, with many residents trapped in their own homes. "The situation is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe and there is very little help," complains Emilio Cuartero, a resident of Massanassa. “We urgently need machines and cranes to reach the places.” The satellite images taken before and after the floods show the city's frightening transformation into a sea of mud. Valencia, once a thriving center, is now a picture of horror.
