Hiking theater tone and cherries: fairytale experiences in Brandenburg

Potsdam/Werder (Havel)- The hiking theater tone and cherries develop a creative fireworks display! Since 1992, this extraordinary theater group has inspired with its unique mix of words, music and dance. The spectators are placed in a poetic intoxication, while dolls, puppets and masks come to life. In October, Margarete Biereye (79) and David Johnston (77) presented their latest production "It was once and was not", which will tour through the Brandenburg villages in the coming summer and at festivals in Germany and France. Around 50 performances are planned!

The actors created a collage of fairytale motifs that is presented with a lot of wit and joy. Margarete welcomes visitors in her colorful caravan and serves a delicious celery puree. Her story is just as colorful: her ancestors had a brick factory in Glindow, and Margarete himself was born on the North Sea island of Fehmarn in 1945. Her passion for the theater led her over 20 years to the Footsbarn Travelling Theater, where she met David. Together they founded a family and always put their art at the center of their lives.

The circus romance and the challenge of the hiking theater

The hiking theater, which looks back on a long tradition, faces challenges. The caravans that serve as the base camp are firmly anchored and cannot be moved because there is a lack of building law. The circus romance is therefore often just an illusion. Despite these difficulties, they managed to assert themselves as a self -determined artist. This year, the theater receives a record funding of 150,000 euros from the state, which underlines the importance of its work.

The creative family is constantly expanding their ensemble: while Margarete and David play the leading roles, their daughters and daughters also come into play. Dolls replace the younger characters and mechanical devices give the performances a special magic. The stories they tell are not only entertaining, but also profound and touching - a real festival for the senses!
