Swiss ski stars in a duel for gold – drama at the fog World Cup!
During the ski racers' team combination on February 12, 2025 in Saalbach Hinterglemm, the descent was made more difficult by dense fog, which caused some exciting twists and turns. Despite their efforts, the ÖSV duos, led by Hemetsberger and Gstrein, were unable to keep up with the best results and had to accept a gap of 0.49 seconds to the bronze medal. This became a disadvantage as the leaders from Italy, with Dominik Paris, presented themselves strongly. The exciting situation came to a head when Switzerland, represented by Franjo von Allmen and Loic Meillard, moved up to a strong second place, with Meillard, considered one of the best slalom runners, just 0.02 seconds behind the leading team ZDF reported.
Tension in the slalom
The visibility conditions were a real challenge for the athletes. Although Hemetsberger was realistic about the conditions, he explained that visibility was significantly worse than on previous trips on the same route. Despite his efforts, he was unable to make up the time as the race progressed. “Up in the curved part and towards the traverse you can’t see anything,” said Hemetsberger, underlining the difficult situation for the drivers. His teammate Vincent Kriechmayr also had problems and only made it to the finish line with a lot of effort, where he fell short of expectations, 1.31 seconds behind.
At the top there is an exciting duel between the Swiss athletes and the Italian team, which provides additional thrills. Alexis Monney made a strong statement with the fastest time in the downhill section, while his team partner Tanguy Nef is preparing for the slalom. The other duos from Norway and France are also fighting for valuable positions, while the German team is struggling and falling short of expectations ORF reports.
