French president sues Candace Owens for wife allegation

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte submitted a 22-person complaint in the United States on Wednesday for defamation against the right podcaster Candace Owens. This was due to the claim that Brigitte could be a man.

Allegations of the defamation

The lawsuit, which was submitted in Delaware in front of the Superior Court, states that Owens had conducted a "tireless, one -year campaign of the defamation against the Macron," said Tom Clare, the couple's lawyer. In March, the conservative commentator Candace Owens has an absurd conspiracy theory with a YouTube video entitled "Is France first lady a man?" revived.

Distribution of conspiracy theories

Owens explained that this conspiracy theory "is probably the biggest scandal in political history" and intensively applied its videos to X (formerly Twitter). In the meantime, she has produced numerous videos about Brigitte Macron for her almost 4.5 million YouTube subscribers, including a multi-part series entitled "Becoming Brigitte". In addition, the lawsuit claims that Owens have sold merchandising articles that support these claims.

Economic damage and objective

In their complaint, the Macrons state that Owens was the first person to bring these baseless claims to the US media and an international audience. The couple raises claims for compensation and argues that they have arisen "considerable economic damage", including the loss of future business opportunities.

Owens' reaction to the lawsuit

On Wednesday, Owens posted a screenshot of an article on Wednesday that refers to the lawsuit of the Macron, together with a picture of the couple and the caption: "I will pursue this topic today. Stay tuned."

French lawsuit and evidence

In addition, Brigitte Macron sued two French women in 2022 because of the spread of similar claims. After winning the first instance, the women won the appointment this year, and the case is now being brought before a higher court, reports the CNN partner BFMTV.

Refuting the wrong claims

According to the official announcement, these cancellation claims to Owens were associated with "irrefutable evidence", which refuted their claims and, among other things, showed that Mme. Macron was born as wife named Brigitte Trogneux and is not a blood reliever by President Macron. It is also refuted that the macrons are checked or blackmailed by unknown forces or a CIA-connected program.

Follow the false information

The complaint states that Owens used these wrong statements to promote their platform, to gain awareness and to earn money. The claims have added to the Macron's "enormous damage". "Every time the macrons leave their home, they know that countless people have heard these hideous fabrications and many of them believe," says the lawsuit. "It is invasive, dehuman and deeply unfair."

Finally an appeal to the truth

The macrons demand punitive Damages (sentence replacement) against Owens and their companies for 22 cases of defamation, incorrect presentation and defamation through hint. At an event in Paris in March 2024, Macron spoke about the rumors about his wife and expressed that the worst part of the presidency was to deal with "false information and fabricated stories". "At some point, people believe in it, and that bothers their lives, even in their most private moments," said Macron.

The Élysée Palace in France said that the lawsuit was a "private matter" and that no comments on the topic would be made.
