France Macron is planning recognition of the Palestinian state in June!
France and Saudi Arabia are preparing an important conference that aims to increase international pressure on Israel and the United States in terms of a two-state solution in the Israel Palestine conflict. The aim is to create a basis for the official recognition of a Palestinian state, the Emmanuel Macron, the French President, targeted the meeting in June. This reports Krone .
Macron emphasizes the urgency of "mutual recognition" by several countries in order to achieve a collective dynamic. This should not only support the Palestinians, but also those who deny Israel's right to exist. In this context, Macron refers in particular to Iran and its role in the conflict. Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar is also critical of the developments.
international reactions and concerns
Saar describes the French efforts as one -sided recognition of a Palestinian state and warns that this could be seen as a reward for terrorism and as support for Hamas. Such a development could therefore further reduce the prospects of peace and security in the region. These critical voices come against the background that since the proclamation of Palestinian sovereignty in 1988, 147 of the 193 UN countries have recognized the Palestinian independence.
The Palestinians have been enjoying an observation status in the UN General Assembly since 2012, which gives them access to international institutions such as the International Criminal Court. Nevertheless, full membership and recognition as an independent state is still pending, especially because of the veto on the part of the USA and other western states. Austria is also located among the states that do not recognize the state of Palestine.
The upcoming conference in France could therefore not only influence the dynamics in the Middle East, but also redesign the relationships between the western states and the Arab nations. Macron strives for a solution that should be an advantage for both the Palestinians and Israelis in the long term and could lead to stable peace.
