On the night of February 26, 2025, two light earthquakes were registered in Austria that were startled by the region. At 3.57 a.m., a quake of the strength occurred 2.3, about 10 kilometers west of Imst in Tyrol. According to the geosphere Austria, it was noticeably perceived by some residents, but no damage to buildings is known. A second earthquake in the Golling area in Salzburg followed an hour later, at 5.10 a.m. This tremor also remained largely without consequences, since no damage was also recorded.

The intensity of an earthquake is not only determined by the magnitude, but also by the distance to the epicenter and the geological conditions. Magnitudes below 2.0 are considered micro -earthquakes and are often only recorded by local seismographs. The earthquakes in Tyrol and Salzburg were noticeable, but left no damage and therefore do not contribute to increased concern among the population. This shows that the geological activity in the region is still relatively low, even if such events briefly put residents on alert.
