Power failure in Wels: Over 9,000 households affected - cause found!
Wels, Österreich - on Tuesday morning, February 11, 2025, there was a massive power failure in Wels. Shortly before 5 a.m., the electricity in the city center and parts of Thalheim fell, over 9,000 households were affected. The reason for this failure was an error on a medium -voltage cable that was laid between the Mitte and the Traunpark substation. According to the EWW, the urban energy supplier, the defect was fixed after around 40 minutes, so that the light started again at 5.31 a.m. EWW spokesman Thomas Holl explained that the incident would be analyzed in detail in order to minimize the likelihood of future problems, such as krone.at reported.
A look at the current account of the EWW Group shows that the average downtime in 2023 was only 48 seconds per customer. The company has been in energy supply for over a hundred years and offers its customers a high level of security of supply. With a predominantly underground electricity grid, weather conditions are not considered to be essential causes of power failures in this region. Nevertheless, this is the second greater incident within a short time, which underlines the urgency of further investigations.
