Unimarkt Weitra: Is the supermarket coming back soon? Mayor gives hope!
There are signs of a significant change in retail in the small town of Weitra. The once valued Unimarkt has been closed since the end of 2024 after the operator Günter Haider announced that he would be retiring due to his age. Mayor Patrick Layr remains optimistic and said that discussions are already underway that give hope for the supermarket to reopen soon NOP reported.
New owner for Unimarkt
In the meantime, the structure of the Unimarkt Group has also changed. Georg Pfeiffer has withdrawn as majority owner, and Andreas Haider, previously managing director, has acquired 100 percent of the shares in the Unimarkt Group as part of a management buyout. Haider thus becomes the sole owner and aims to continue to run the business as a family business. The deal was approved by the Federal Competition Authority, although the purchase price remains secret, according to courier.
Haider already has plans to change the group's structure by increasing the number of franchise stores from the current 66 to around 100. At the same time, only around 30 of our own locations will be managed. This could represent a strategic realignment of the company to better adapt to market changes. While Pfeiffer is leaving retail after many challenging years, he remains chairman of the supervisory board to continue to steer the fortunes of the Unimarkt Group.
