Police on Christmas duty: Swatting and break-ins shake the district
In the Günzburg district, the police recorded numerous operations around Christmas, including a serious case of “swatting”. How Augsburger Allgemeine reported, the incident occurred on December 23rd in Krumbach. A fake emergency was reported via a delivery platform that indicated domestic violence. The alleged perpetrator was a 40-year-old online streamer who was alone in his apartment at the time. The police have started an investigation into feigning a crime.
In addition, there was a traffic accident in Kötz on the same day, in which a 19-year-old collided with a 27-year-old while turning. Both suffered minor injuries and the property damage is estimated at around 6,500 euros. An accident in Krumbach was also solved. During the holidays, additional traffic accidents were recorded in various parts of the district, including in a parking lot in Thannhausen.
Burglaries and thefts in the region
The police also discovered a break-in at a single-family home in Krumbach between December 16th and 23rd. The perpetrators pried open the patio door and caused material damage of around 1,000 euros, while jewelry and valuables worth around 2,000 euros were stolen. Witnesses who have information about these incidents are asked to contact the Krumbach police station (telephone: 08282/9050).
A series of burglaries in Haldenwang and Roßhaupten were also recorded. A pocket bike was stolen on the night of December 24th to 25th, but was later found. In addition, a wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Von-Eisenberg-Straße and an e-scooter from a garage on Sonnenstraße.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has already documented 68 crimes against streamers this year, although the number of unreported cases remains unknown. The costs for operations based on these registered cases amount to at least 1.5 million euros. The term “swatting”, which comes from the USA, describes the practice of sending heavily armed special forces against innocent people. How Deutschlandfunk reported, private individuals, politicians, companies, clubs or schools are often affected. Many of the victims require psychotherapeutic care after such incidents.
