Zittau is planning a new playground: concept for all age groups by 2025!
Zittau. The city of Zittau is planning a major offensive for its playgrounds! Investments will be made in new facilities and renovations by 2026 to meet the needs of little adventurers. There is currently no playground that is suitable for all age groups. But that should change! A concept will be developed in the next few months, which will form the basis for future playground design. “It serves as a basis,” explains Mayor Thomas Zenker (Zkm). The city has budgeted 50,000 euros for this and wants to award the contract by the end of the year.
The maintenance of the existing playgrounds is already going well. Since 2019, five-figure amounts have been invested in modernization every year. This year, the facility in Dittelsdorf was upgraded for a whopping 35,000 euros - the highlight is a new play tower that will make children's hearts beat faster! In addition, the construction of new play equipment between the Kreuzkirche and the building trades school in Zittau has begun, with a total cost of around 125,000 euros. These investments are largely financed by EU funding and other support, including 10,000 euros from the Saxon participation fund and 15,000 euros from the Rotary Club Dreiländereck-Oberlausitz.
Big plans for the future!
But that's just the beginning! Exciting projects are already on the agenda for the next two years. A new skate park at the Westpark Center is planned for around 575,000 euros in 2025, while the former sensory garden on Pfarrstrasse is to be redesigned for around 35,000 euros. Another highlight awaits the people of Zittau in 2026: a new playground is to be built on the site of the former swimming pool in Wittgendorf, although the old one at the old school will be demolished. The city would like to apply for funding for this project and is expecting 35,000 euros of its own funds. Zittau is committed to a colorful future for its small citizens!
