Micky Mouse: A success story

The Micky Maus Comic has a long and successful story in Germany that began in late summer 1951. The market for comic books was hardly available in the early years, and Micky Maus set new standards as the first colorful monthly booklet in the German magazine market, produced in four-color printing. The first edition immediately sells over 130,000 times, which impressively demonstrated the demand for comics in Germany. At that time the price of the issue was 75 pfennigs, which was more than the average hourly wage.

The first editor -in -chief, Erika Fuchs, shaped many German names of the characters, including "Dagobert Duck". The pressure edition of the magazine rapidly rose to around 400,000 copies, and after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 the edition in the GDR was raised to over 200,000 issues. In 1991, the print edition crossed the million mark for the first time, and in 1998 it was possible to sell issue 10 over a million times. Despite some challenges, such as the decline in the birth rate since the 1990s and the competition by other magazines, Micky Maus remains the most successful children's magazine in Europe with a total of 1.3 billion issues.

A look into the future

In recent years, Micky Maus has always adapted to the changing market conditions. From 2018, the magazine only appeared every 14 days. According to the market analysis "Children's Media Monitor", Micky Maus is behind the "Donald Duck special issue". However, it is gratifying that Micky Maus is experiencing a renaissance in children thanks to new cartoon films and comics and was able to build a loyal readership through successful product series such as "Micky Maus Comics" and "Micky Maus Taschenbuch". The anniversary book "70 years of Micky Maus - The Best From 1951 to 2021" honors this impressive story.

The upcoming edition with Wincent Weiss as "Winduck Weiss" will certainly appeal to many comic fans and will be further proof of the timeless relevance and popularity of Micky Mouse today.
