a long success story
The Micky Mouse is not only known for her current success. The first edition of the Micky Maus appeared in Germany in late summer 1951 and represented a milestone: it was the first colorful monthly booklet in the German magazine market, produced in four -color printing. At a price of 75 pfennigs, these booklets were more expensive than the average hourly wages, but this did not stop readers from selling over 130,000 copies immediately, such as Tagesspiegel reported.
under the direction of Erika Fuchs, the first editor -in -chief, the characters were given German names, such as "Dagobert Duck". The Micky Mouse quickly established itself and reached a print run of around 400,000 copies. Their phrase was increased in 1956 to 14 days and later to weekly, despite the competition by magazines such as "Fix and Foxi" and "Yps".
Current challenges and opportunities
In the development of the magazine, there was setbacks from time to time. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the edition in the GDR rose to over 200,000 issues, but the total circulation in the past decade dropped to less than 100,000 copies. From 2018, the booklets only appeared every 14 days. Nevertheless, a market analysis shows that Micky Maus has again gained popularity in children, especially through new cartoon films and comics.
Currently the Micky Mouse remains the most successful children's magazine in Europe with a total of 1.3 billion issues sold. With the introduction of Wincent Weiss as a comic star, it is hardly doubtful that the magazine will remain an important part of the child's reading culture and adapts to the changes in the market.
