Fuel prices rise: So much you now pay for diesel and petrol!

The fuel prices in Austria rose suddenly at the beginning of 2025 and put a strain on the drivers. The average price for gasoline was 1.571 euros per liter in January, which corresponds to an increase of 6.3 cents compared to December 2024. Diesel also became more expensive, with an average price of 1.609 euros and an increase of 6.2 cents. According to the ÖAMTC, these price upper limits are significantly higher than the only expected three cent per liter, which should be justified by the CO2 price increase at the turn of the year, according to Finanz.at reported.

This development is expected to be further fueled by the steadily increasing prices for petrol and diesel. Interestingly, Austria remains relatively cheap for drivers compared to other EU countries, especially with super petrol, where the prices are below the EU average. In contrast, there is a lower difference in diesel, and for travelers to neighboring countries such as Germany or Italy, it may be advisable to recharge your batteries again.
