For reasons that are still unclear, the driver crossed into the oncoming lane in a right-hand bend and collided with an oncoming truck driven by a 56-year-old from Klagenfurt. Despite an attempt by the truck driver to steer to the right onto the embankment, the head-on collision could no longer be avoided. The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle by the force of the impact and remained seriously injured in the middle of the road. An emergency doctor who happened to be passing by immediately provided first aid.

Traffic accidents and their consequences

In Germany and Austria, traffic accidents regularly cause serious injuries and deaths. According to the Statistical Offices, comprehensive data on the road safety situation and causes of accidents are collected. These statistics serve not only to analyze accidents, but also as a basis for legislative measures, traffic education and the improvement of road infrastructure.

Another serious accident occurred on Sunday evening in Pulheim-Brauweiler near Cologne, where a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a car. The accident took place in the intersection of Bonnstrasse (L183) and Donatusstrasse. The district control center reported the collision at around 8:30 p.m. The motorcyclist received immediate medical attention from first responders before a rescue helicopter was requested to transport him to a hospital in Cologne.

The fire department was on site with 29 emergency services and seven vehicles and supported the rescue service, secured the accident site and also picked up any spilled operating materials.
