Terrible accident in Salzburg: mother and child seriously injured!
On Sunday there were considerable disturbances in road traffic in Austria, caused by dense holiday traffic and a dramatic accident on the Alpine road. According to the traffic experts of the ÖAMTC, the return trip from holidaymakers from the Balkan countries to Germany was noticeable, while numerous skiers were on the road in Western Austria. In front of the border position Nickelsdorf (A4), up to 30-minute delays were formed again and again, and the West Autobahn (A1) recorded an exceptionally high volume of traffic for a Sunday. In Tyrol in particular, traffic jams, for example on Eiberg Straße (B173) and the Fernpass Straße (B179), occurred on many state roads, triggered by accidents.
Serious accident on Alpenstrasse
At the same time, a serious accident caused a sensation on the Alpine Road (B150). Shortly before 5:30 p.m., a 73-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle due to health problems. He raced over the sidewalk, broke through the garden of a fast food restaurant and pushed against several traffic signs before he came to a standstill on a rock. A total of eight people were seriously injured in the accident, including a 32-year-old mother and her two-year-old child, who was in the stroller. You and the driver were brought to hospitals for treatment. While the driver was not accessible at the scene of the accident, an alkotest was negative how Salzburg24 reported.
The incident required a large contingent of rescue workers. A total of four emergency doctors, two helicopters and six rescue vehicles were deployed. A crisis intervention team was also available for those affected. Due to the accident, gas also escaped from the air conditioning of the vehicle, which led to the establishment of a blocking circuit. The Alpenstraße was closed in this area between Fürstenweg and Frohnburgweg for several hours in both directions, such as ÖAMTC reported.
In view of the winter weather conditions, the traffic experts warn of black ice, especially in Lower and Upper Austria as well as in Styria and Salzburg, which also makes the situation more difficult. Drivers are asked to adapt the speed to the weather conditions and to exercise caution.
