Kiel starts with a large Beerpong tournament: 190 players from all over Europe!
The first beer pong tournament of the BPONG Bundesliga took place in Schleswig-Holstein on January 9, 2025. The event attracted over 100 participants, including players from Austria and Switzerland who fought for victory in the Hotel The Niu Welly. The tournament, which continues until Saturday evening, has the goal of throwing table tennis balls in cups and is a significant step in the development of the berry pong, which has changed from a drinking game to a serious competition.
Nico Beckmann, Managing Director of the BPong Bundesliga and former European champion, was also on site. Around 190 participants, including players from Serbia, are expected for the entire tournament. On the first day of the opening, which lasted over six hours, the spectators were able to observe how Jacob Wagner won the first tournament. A total of 14 beer pong tables are available for single and team matches where the cups are set up in a triangle formation.
tournament information and prize money
In professional tournaments, beer is replaced by water, while alcohol is rather consumed. The BPong Bundesliga, which has existed since 2020, organizes regular tournaments every three to four months. The organization team consists of seven people who have set themselves the goal of organizing a tournament in Schleswig-Holstein. The participants emphasize the family atmosphere and the friendships obtained at the event within the community.
On the final day of the tournament, around 9,600 euros are distributed in prize money, which are generated by participation fees. A next Beerpong tournament in Kiel is already being planned for the next year, such as kn-online.de reported.
The idea of the Beer Pong Bundesliga came about during the pandemic when Patrick Mitschke developed the vision of a cross-border team comparison of the best beer pong players in Europe. The foundation of the league was promoted by the general acceptance of online tournaments, and the starting shot was given in the autumn season 2020, as bpbl.de reported.
