100 years of the Lindenberg Library: A heart for books and the joy of reading!
A reason to celebrate! The Lindenberg Library, a true treasure in the heart of the rectory, is celebrating its 100th anniversary! Founded in 1924 by Pastor Weiser, who took the first step towards promoting reading culture with just 23 books, the library has fought its way through ups and downs and remains an important contact point for bookworms to this day!
History of the library
In 1957 the library moved to the newly built “sisters' house”, which offered space for a kindergarten, parish hall and of course the library. But history was not always so harmonious: from 1983 the library was temporarily closed before reopening with renewed vigor in 1990. Despite the challenges, the Lindenberg library is now one of only 100 Catholic public libraries in the diocese of Speyer, which is supported by around 750 volunteers and is also aimed at non-churchgoers!
A special kind of anniversary
Now that we have reached our anniversary year, the numbers are convincing: the number of loans has increased consistently in recent years, and the library has developed into a place that offers much more than just books. With over 1,200 media, including Tonies and games, it ensures that everyone gets their money's worth. Readers can now also use the free online service “Onleihe im Diocese of Speyer”, which offers over 10,000 digital media!
Unfortunately, the 100th anniversary cannot be celebrated with a big party, but a creative plan is on the agenda: the library will be represented with a colorful stand during the Lindenberg Christmas market! 100 different items will be sold here to celebrate the anniversary and purchase new media. A big thank you goes to all the loyal readers and supporters who make this success story possible!
