A breath of fresh air has been blowing at the University of Koblenz since October 1, 2024! The new professor for biology didactics, Prof. Dr. Finja Grospietsch, brings fresh ideas and innovative concepts to teaching. It is dedicated to the exciting world of biology teaching and focuses on modern learning strategies that are available to students and teachers in the classroom. Digital learning aids such as apps for biological species identification and interactive puzzles are particularly under their microscope.
Great commitment to educational innovations
Prof. Grospietsch has set himself ambitious goals. She is currently transferring ongoing funding applications and research projects to the University of Koblenz. “We want combined research efforts instead of isolated projects,” explains the passionate biology educator. She has defined three central focuses in order to optimize the transition from daycare to primary school to secondary school and to link the subject of biology with modern teaching methods.

With her focus on cognitively active learning approaches and the effective use of digital media, she is planning a teaching concept that not only imparts knowledge to students, but also actively involves them in the learning process. Grospietsch relies on a teaching system that breaks down existing misconceptions in the area of “brain and learning” and supports future teachers in an innovative way.
The proven expert gained valuable research experience in the past before coming to Koblenz. She has led numerous interdisciplinary projects and brings with her a network of experiences that is of great importance to the scientific community and beyond. In her free time, she enjoys nature and plans to translate her biological knowledge into successful harvests in her own garden!
