ÖAMTC: Record number of breakdown aids in 2024! There were so many missions!
In 2024, the "yellow angels" of the ÖAMTC in Austria moved to astonishing 695,500 missions, which corresponds to a daily average of around 1,905 missions. Katharina Brezina, the head of the breakdown aid, pointed out the challenges with which the mobility club was confronted, including longer heat waves during summer and a cold January, who recorded the highest use with more than 67,000 breakdowns. It was particularly striking that the breakdown aid was strongly challenged by the flood disaster in September, such as ÖAMTC reported.
The most common problems the breakdown help took were weak or defective car batteries that were responsible for a third of the missions alone. Tire problems and difficulties with the starter or generator followed in the places, while the errors caused missions in five percent of cases with closed car doors or defective keys. The situation becomes even more impressive if you look at the ADAC numbers in Germany. In 2023, this had over 3.5 million missions, with the problems around the car battery with over 44 percent as the most common cause. A drastic increase in operations in electric cars by about 50 percent, in turn HNA reported.
Increased breakdown of the breakdown by the weather
The increase in operations during bad weather conditions was particularly striking. The ADAC recorded a day on December 4, 2023 with over 18,000 calls due to a violent onset of winter. The influence of weather conditions on the breakdown situation can also be seen in connection with the record -high operations of the ÖAMTC, especially in January and December. The highest number of missions was registered in the cold January. It remains to be seen how future traffic development and the increase in electric vehicles will change the landscape of breakdown aid.
