Pompeo Dream: The outsider wins the Krefeld gallop classic!

An unexpected triumph marked the Krefeld gallop season 2024 on Saturday in the city forest! The outsider Pompeo Dream, trained by Bohumil Nedorostek for the Swiss Cometica AG, caused a sensation at the Grand Prix of the Wohnstätte Krefeld – Herzog von Ratibor race. With odds of 124:10, the four-year-old stallion ran the 1,700 meter distance and won the main race, worth 55,000 euros, with an impressive lead of one and a quarter lengths!

Jockey Thore Hammer-Hansen led Pompeo Dream from the front, leaving behind favorites including Polish rival Place Fontenoy and the Maxim Pecheur-trained Bastion. Despite his modest auction of only 13,000 euros as a yearling and a late entry of 5,500 euros, which secured him the starting place, Pompeo Dream showed an outstanding performance. “The jockey did a great job,” said trainer Nedorostek, praising the rider, who mastered the race confidently. Bastian Imig, board member of Wohnstätte Krefeld, was pleased with the great audience response and the exuberant atmosphere at the season finale.

A race full of surprises!

The excitement was palpable as the horses entered the home straight. Pompeo Dream, who entered the race as a clear outsider, was undeterred and kept the competition at a distance. The victory in one of the most traditional races for two-year-olds will certainly go down in the annals of Krefeld galloping. This unexpected result not only thrilled the spectators, but also surprised the bettors who had bet on the underdog. A truly memorable day for everyone involved!
