The Christmas season is approaching and North Rhine-Westphalia is transforming into a fairytale winter wonderland! From festively illuminated castles to romantic castles - the region offers a variety of Christmas markets that will make every visitor's heart beat faster. Here are the highlights that you shouldn't miss!
A feast for the senses at Moyland Castle
From December 11th to 15th, Moyland Castle near Bedburg-Hau will shine in festive splendor. The 26th Artisan Christmas Market attracts art lovers and Christmas enthusiasts alike. In the picturesque gardens of the moated castle, talented craftsmen present their unique creations. Admission is 7.50 euros, while children up to 16 years of age can enter free of charge. Opening hours are Wednesday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Another highlight is the Christmas market at Benrath Castle in Düsseldorf, which takes place from November 22nd to December 22nd. Here, visitors can browse through cozy wooden huts and be inspired by creative gift ideas. The atmospheric atmosphere is complemented by special tours and concerts that allow you to experience the castle from the inside. Opening times are Fridays from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Romantic experiences and a festive atmosphere
Merode Castle near Düren invites you to a romantic Christmas market from November 27th that will enchant visitors over three weeks. In addition to the Christ Child, there will also be a spectacular fireworks show. Entrance fees vary between 7 and 12 euros, while children between six and 16 years only pay 4 euros.
The St. Nicholas market at Hugenpoet Castle in Essen-Kettwig takes place on the first two weekends of Advent. Here visitors can browse through festively decorated huts and buy gifts. Entry costs from 10 euros and includes a cup of mulled wine. Children under 12 have free entry.
From November 29th, Altena Castle will be the scene of a winter spectacle that will take visitors back to the time of Charles Dickens. With crafts, music and street artists, this event will be an unforgettable experience. Admission is 4 euros, reduced 2 euros for children and young people.
