A big step for the transport transition in North Rhine-Westphalia! On Monday, November 11, 2024, NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer presented the eagerly awaited funding decision for a whopping 6.6 million euros to the “Development Agency for Sustainable Freight Transport Hamm GmbH”. This financial support will be provided over the next four years and is a crucial impetus for the development of a comprehensive transport concept.
The agency has set itself the goal of efficiently linking the various modes of freight transport – rail, road and waterway. The focus is particularly on the disused marshalling yard, whose revival should result in a noticeable reduction in freight traffic on the roads. Krischer emphasized the immense importance of this initiative for sustainable mobility in the region and the associated transport transition.
Funding for personnel and infrastructure
The funds provided are used not only for staff positions and studies, but also for material resources and office space. With this funding commitment, the necessary tenders can now be initiated to put the ambitious plans into practice. The development of an integrated transport concept could set the course for a more environmentally friendly future in freight transport and strengthen the Hamm region as an important logistics location.
