New piercing in Bockum-Hövel: Shops move closer!

Hamm has realized a new, important traffic project in the form of a piercing between the Marine and Oswaldstrasse. This was mainly made possible by a new construction project on Marinestrasse, in which a three -and -a -half -storey building with seven barrier -free apartments was built on the site of the former shoe store Oles. The path that finally leads over the parking lot on Oswaldstrasse is the result of years of planning.

The foundation stone for this project was laid by a piece of land between the city and the client. A garage that was in the back of the new building had to be demolished. The city originally planned to realize the piercing only after the construction work has been completed, but delays led to the path could now be opened.

Welcome by the CDU

The CDU Bockum-Hövel is pleased with the new access, but at the same time has the impression that one would have liked the project faster. Group leader Ute Schulenberg-Beiske emphasizes: "The better connection of the last remaining shopping street in Hövel to the former town hall center and the marketplace is an important step to revitalize the center." This is a sign that residents and business owners have hoped for improvement in their living and trade environment.

Maximilian Weißenberg, a CDU councilor, is rather disappointed in this regard and explains: "After the closure of the oles shoe store in October 2019, we had hoped for a faster realization of the long-awaited through." He emphasizes the frustration over the almost five years of waiting and raises the question of why this process took so long.

Expansion and improvements required

The CDU press release also deals with the future design of the path. "A lot still has to happen here," emphasizes Andreas Schwienhorst, deputy district mayor and also a member of the CDU. He calls for a timely paving of the path and better lighting to ensure that all age groups can use access. "We hope that this will not take another five years," he adds with a smile.

Interestingly, the topic of parking situation on Oswaldstrasse is also addressed. The CDU reports that the parking bays there are too small and that the vehicles are unnecessarily complicated. They call for comprehensive renovation and modernization of the parking lot to optimize the use. The majority of the district council in mid -2021 were against a redesign of the parking lot and threw that the cars were simply too large and not the parking bays were too small.

However, the piercing itself is still in the shadow of a provisional railing made of timber and remains rather immature in the current form. The city had planned to pave the way to a width of two meters, which has not yet been realized. These factors contribute to the discussion about the need for further measures to increase the attractiveness of the center.

The CDU therefore has clear ideas about the future of this new connection and remains that the ongoing developments in the city are concerned about. The demands on the infrastructure that we all use in everyday life are highly defined. The residents expect significant progress in terms of further improvements to facilitate their everyday life and revive the center of Bockum-Hövel. The entire project will continue to be observed carefully, and it can be excited to see which measures will be taken in the near future.
