Duisburg: Five hundredweight bomb successfully defused – all clear!
There was a dramatic incident in Duisburg-Ruhrort today: an English five hundredweight bomb was discovered! The site was located on the Pontwert headland between the Ruhr and the harbor canal, and the situation required immediate action. At 2:20 p.m., Tim Hoferichter's team reported that the bomb had been successfully defused. The roadblocks are now being lifted and the warning app NINA has given the all-clear.
Defusing was a race against time! The explosive ordnance disposal service was quickly on site to neutralize the dangerous bomb. 135 residents within a 500 meter radius had to be evacuated while emergency services kept the situation under control. Dammstrasse and Krausstrasse were affected, but a safety zone was not set up. Fortunately, shipping on the Rhine remained unaffected, while the paths along the Ruhr in the Kaßlerfeld industrial area were closed.
Evacuation and security measures
The evacuation began at 12 p.m. and staying in the danger zone was no longer permitted. Locals were urgently asked to avoid the area so as not to hinder the emergency services. However, bus and tram lines remained untouched, ensuring citizens' mobility. For further information, citizens can contact the city of Duisburg via its website or social media channels. The fire department's emergency hotlines are also available to clarify questions and ensure safety.
