200 million euros for innovations: NRW starts funding program!

A huge step for industry in the Rhenish area! Around 200 million euros of EU funds from the EFRE/JTF program NRW 2021-2027 are ready to support companies in the region. In the first round, four groundbreaking projects were selected, which are funded with a total of 100 million euros. These initiatives are not only innovative, but also crucial for the future technologies in North Rhine-Westphalia!

Economic and Climate Protection Minister Mona Neubaur emphasizes: "With our funding offer, we specifically set important impulses for companies to develop and produce future technologies for climate-neutral and digital transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia." These projects are a prime example of the region's innovative strength and strengthen competitiveness and strategic independence in the country.

The funded projects in detail

The project from Glück - Cylib Production GmbH in Dormagen stands out among the selected projects. This creates a state-of-the-art battery recycling system that recovered raw materials such as lithium and graphite. Another highlight is the H2Bedburg project of RWE Generation SE, which develops a hydrogen filling system. This initiative aims to make North Rhine-Westphalia more independent of hydrogen imports and to secure the value chains in the hydrogen economy.

Minplus Production GmbH in Düren also relies on sustainability with a system for the production of the environmentally friendly min-plus additive, which is intended to increase the efficiency of waste incineration plants. Finally, ESK-SIC GmbH in Frechen plans the world's first factory for silicon carbide in the sense of a circular economy, which will produce up to 6,000 tons of raw silicon carbide an annual.

A total of another 100 million euros will be available for new project applications by December 2, 2024. North Rhine-Westphalia shows itself as a pioneer in the implementation of the Step initiative of the European Union, which aims to reduce strategic dependencies and to promote "made in Europe". An exciting path to a sustainable future!
