Wagenknecht attacks US politics: Sanctions harm Europe!

The Alliance for Social Justice (BSW), led by Sahra Wagenknecht, presented a comprehensive program for the Bundestag election at his party congress in Bonn. In her 53-minute speech, Wagenknecht spoke issues such as a tax on high income, the pension system and migration, with the main focus of the supporters on questions of war and peace. She critically addressed the US alliance and presented black and white images from the 1980s of the peace movement, which were well received by those present.

particularly sensational was a statement by Sevim Dagdelen, which with the exclamation "Ami Go Home!" Applause received. Wagenknecht took the opportunity to sharply criticize the other political parties, especially Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and CDU boss Friedrich Merz. She commented negatively about the economic sanctions against Russia and warned of a new arms. With regard to the sanctions, she noticed that they were an "economic stimulus program for the US economy" and a "killer program for German and European companies".

challenges and internal conflicts

The support for the BSW was shown in the last elections, where it even achieved two -digit results in the 2024 elections in 2024 and in the state elections in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg. Nevertheless, BSW General Secretary Christian Leye reported challenges in public perception; Current surveys see the party at 4 to 6 percent. Co-chairman Amira Mohamed Ali criticized media reporting as partisan against the BSW.

Internal conflicts burden the party, especially through financial difficulties and organizational questions. A controversial topic is the establishment of its own national association by Hamburg BSW members, which are to be excluded from the party due to internal disputes. During the party congress, there were hardly any discussions about the migration positions.

Wagenknecht also questioned that economic sanctions against Russia had serious effects on human rights or the inviolability of limits. Instead, she called for a critical look at the economic interests of American companies. These and other statements clearly underline the clear positioning of the BSW under Wagenknecht leadership against the previous political alliances.
