Bernie Gelhausen: Bonn’s music whisperer recommends Wardour Street”!

Bernie Gelhausen, a central figure in the Mr. Music record store in Bonn, has recommended the Quireboys' album “Wardour Street” as “Album of the Year 2024”. Gelhausen, who is known for his extraordinary feel for music, offered both insider tips and classics in his shop, which he described as “music of the day”. His recommendations are now also available on Facebook.

The album Wardour Street is described as a nostalgic look back and celebration of rock 'n' roll. Particularly highlighted is the emotional and authentic song “Raining Whiskey”, which is a collaboration with the late Frankie Miller. The title is considered a love letter to rock 'n' roll culture and contains stories of nocturnal adventures. Luke Morley's guitar work is characterized as outstanding and contains a mix of acoustics and solos.

“Raining Whiskey”: An emotional song

The Quireboys recently released a video for “Raining Whiskey,” which serves as the second single from their upcoming album Wardour Street. This piece features previously unreleased vocals from Frankie Miller, who has not recorded since suffering an aneurysm in 1994. Miller had originally sent a demo tape of the song to Quireboys frontman Spike for his 2014 album 100% Pure Frankie Miller, but the song was not included on the final tracklist.

Added that the new version of “Raining Whiskey” was mixed by Nick Brine, who also worked on the new album. Frankie Miller was the first to hear the new version and encouraged its release as a single. The song will be released on June 21st as a double A-side alongside “Jeez Louise,” which was released digitally in October. “Wardour Street” will be released on September 13th via Cadiz Music and is already available for pre-order.

Spike expressed that the process of making the album was both heartbreaking and amazing and dedicated the album to the late guitarist Guy Bailey. The Quireboys are also planning two live performances: at the Stonedead Festival in Newark on August 23rd and at the Winterstorm Festival in Troon, Scotland on November 28th.
