New train connections from December: DB makes Europe accessible!

Ingolstadt, Deutschland - Deutsche Bahn plans a comprehensive timetable change that is due to come into force in mid -December 2024. In this new timetable, the range of international train connections is significantly expanded. There will also be more sprinter trains and ICE connections that can be reached directly within Germany. Michael Peterson, Board for Passenger Running at DB, emphasizes the increasing demand for train trips in Europe. "International long -distance traffic is booming," says Peterson. The train wants to stay competitive to the car with attractive travel times.

A central feature of the new timetable is that from October 16, 2024, the tickets for the new connections can be purchased. In addition, the pre -booking period for national offers is extended to up to twelve months, which offers travelers more flexibility.

innovations and new connections

A particularly exciting detail is the introduction of a transfer-free ICE connection from Munich to Amsterdam. Travelers can reach the Dutch capital directly during the day without having to change. The train from Munich is departed at 4:28 p.m. and reaches Amsterdam around 11:29 p.m.

In addition, DB complements the high-demand ECE connections between Munich and Switzerland by another pair of train. These additional connections are offered during the week and enable a daily stay in Munich.

The daily ICE connection from Stuttgart to Innsbruck is also optimized. In the future, this train will depart two hours earlier, which enables travelers to arrive earlier. The connections to Italy will also be improved: from Munich there will be several daily direct connections to Venice in the future.

In the area of commuter connections, there are also positive developments. The ICE from Nuremberg to Augsburg will depart early in the morning, which will benefit the commuters. There are also new intercity connections to Jena and Leipzig with optimized travel times.

Deutsche Bahn uses these measures to improve the attractiveness of rail traffic and reacts to the increasing demand. The rail network will continue to be modernized with the “Strong rail” project, which will continue in 2025. Many construction sites should increase the quality and punctuality, which ultimately benefits travelers.

The adjustments are part of the strategy of the DB to become more attractive in competition with other modes of transport. At a time when more and more people recognize the advantages of train travel, the DB is pursuing the goal of further improving comfort and accessibility with its new timetable.
