Koblenz celebrates the fall of Assad: Motorcade brings joy to the country!
In Germany, the fall of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad is euphorically celebrated. Today, numerous Syrians gathered in Koblenz for an impressive motorcade with around 300 vehicles to properly celebrate the news of Assad's departure. According to police reports, the route of the parade was agreed upon in advance and a heavy police presence ensured that the celebrations ran smoothly. “We are here to celebrate our freedom!” shouted participants as they marched through the streets. This joy is also reflected in other parts of Germany, such as Northern Courier reported where hundreds of people took to the streets.
Celebrations in Northern Germany
The rally was particularly large in Kiel, where, according to the police, between 500 and 600 people gathered under the motto “Freedom for Syria”. In other cities such as Neumünster, 80 to 100 people also marched through the streets to emphasize the fall of al-Assad as a historic moment. “We will never forget December 8, 2024 – Syria was liberated from dictator Assad, like Germany was liberated from Adolf Hitler!” said an enthusiastic participant at the event. Kristian Klinck, a member of the Bundestag for the SPD, highlighted Germany's role in supporting a peaceful transition in Syria.
Planned gatherings continue to take place in several northern cities following dramatic developments in Syria, where an alliance of insurgents took control of key cities. Recent car parades and smaller peaceful actions also show people's determination to mark the day when long-time dictator Assad was forced to flee.
