Lawsuit against glyphosate: DUH fights for the future of bees!

A dramatic legal dispute is gaining momentum: German Environmental Aid (DUH) is fighting together with the Aurelia Foundation against the EU-wide approval of glyphosate until 2033. The use of the controversial pesticide is in jeopardy due to a lawsuit before the European Court!

The environmentalists are going into battle with their collective strength - after an extremely successful case against the glyphosate manufacturer Roundup PowerFlex, they have now turned their focus to the EU Commission. The sharp right-wing hammer is to be wielded again to overturn the approval for glyphosate, which, according to DUH, was renewed through massive lobbying pressure from the pesticide industry.“The imminent renewal is a direct threat to our environment and violates the precautionary principle,”explains Jürgen Resch, Federal Managing Director of the DUH.

Environmentalists are fighting back vigorously

Under the pretext of risk assessment, the EU Commission approved glyphosate for another ten years, despite growing concerns about biodiversity and water bodies. Resch is concerned that current national environmental protection measures are not strong enough to avert the impending disaster. While authorities are still discussing the consequences, concerns that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic” and causing massive damage to nature are growing louder.

Thomas Radetzki from the Aurelia Foundation goes one step further:“The approval was unlawful because the harmful effects on bees and other flower pollinators were not sufficiently taken into account,”said Radetzki. Meanwhile the clock strikes; Time is of the essence and calls for an immediate ban on all glyphosate applications in flowering crops are becoming increasingly pressing.

The DUH and the Aurelia Foundation are at the forefront of this crucial debate, and not just with regard to glyphosate. In addition to this lawsuit, there are already several legal proceedings against other products containing glyphosate, handled by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, which are leading the fight for an environmentally friendly future.
