JJ inspires with an opera -like drama for the ESC 2025 in Vienna!
In the Vienna State Opera, the "Wasted Love" song of 23-year-old singer Johannes Pietsch, known as JJ, was presented on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. JJ Austria wants to represent the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025 in Basel with an interesting concept from opera and pop. The song treats its personal experiences with unrequited love and combines dramatic opera elements with modern beats. "There are parallels between the song contest and opera-it is very often a drama. And for most things it is bad," said ESC veteran Andi Knoll optimistically about Austria's chances. The official premiere of the song took place on Thursday in the Ö3 alarm clock, as reported by the Austrian radio (ORF).
high expectations and interesting role models
JJ was responsible for the creation of the catchy melody, in collaboration with Thomas Turner and the former ESC participant Teya. The change between the pop voice and the counter falsette, which JJ masters with ease: "The changeover goes very quickly - and now I have sung it so often that it is already possible during sleep." His idols like Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande shaped the trendy part of the song, while Maria Callas and Anna Netrebko stood for the opera elements. Stefan Zechner, head of the ORF delegation, sees the cross-over as a particularly exciting project for Austria, and the television director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz also praised the "mighty voice" of the artist.
The preparations for the song contest are in full swing. The second semi -final is on May 15, and JJ already has high expectations among the bookmakers who classified him in sixth place. In addition, the Vienna duo ABOR and Tynna will also appear for Germany in the final in May after they have prevailed in the national preliminary decision. The competition is noticeable, but the anticipation for the competition is great. Other participant countries have already announced their artists, including promising acts from France and Israel, which will enrich the stage in Basel. This preliminary decision season promises a lot of drama and extravagance, and the ESC is already in the starting blocks.
