Illegal street races: New law against racers causes excitement!
illegal street races increasingly arouse minds in Austria and Germany. In an initiative to combat these dangers, Austria's state transport officer Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP) emphasized the urgent need to facilitate the intervention of the police against racers. So far, a lack of legal foundations have made it more difficult to hold participants in illegal car racing. While participation in such races has so far only been an administrative offense, a change in the law should now be remedied, as orf.at
new penal provisions in Germany
At the same time, the German Bundestag took a decisive step in 2017 to punish illegal car racing. The newly introduced §315d StGB makes it punishable to participate in non-permitted motor vehicle races or to organize them, such as Fernererdorf.de . Anyone who violates this regulation can expect prison terms of up to two years or fines. In the case of serious injuries or deaths, the punishment can increase to up to ten years in prison. In addition, vehicles can be collected from razors, which should serve the deterrent.
The new regulations are a direct reaction to the alarming increase in traffic accidents due to excessive speed, which also pose a serious risk to uninvolved passers -by. The combination of these laws in both countries conveys a clear signal: the judiciary wants to consistently take action against racers and thus strengthen both the safety in road traffic and take account of the controller.
