Ikea starts e-shop offensive: 1,000 new charging points for Germany!
Waltersdorf, Deutschland - Hofheim-Wallau -In a significant step towards promoting electromobility in Germany, IKEA has decided to build over 1,000 new charging points. Together with the leading provider of charging solutions, MER, this expansion is implemented at 54 IKEA locations by 2028. Walter Kadnar, Managing Director of Ikea Germany, explains: "For us, sustainability is not just a corporate goal, but an obligation to coming generations." The expansion is to achieve an annual CO₂ saving of around 71,000 tons-this corresponds to the emissions of 395 million kilometers with a diesel vehicle. The first six locations in Bielefeld, Bremen, Chemnitz, Freiburg, Kaarst and Mannheim will also be put into operation in 2025, as well as Ikea.com reported.
new charging stations and sustainable mobility
The new charging stations are operated continuously with 100 % green electricity and should be accessible to customers: inside, employees: inside and delivery vehicles. The charging points already used at IKEA parking spaces save almost 4,000 tons of CO₂ annually and are an important part of the company's sustainability strategy. Mer, the partner of Ikea, plays a crucial role: "This project shows how partnerships between companies can decisively advance the mobility transition," said Günter Fuhrmann, Managing Director of Mer Germany. This measure goes hand in hand with other initiatives from Ikea, such as the offer of e-cargo bikes and battery cubes in various furnishing houses.
ikea also plans to significantly reduce emissions of its own delivery vehicles by 2030. The conversion to sustainable mobility is part of a comprehensive plan to achieve a positive climate balance and to halve the CO₂ footprint by 2030. For Ikea, the introduction of an extensive charging infrastructure at its locations is essential to realize these ambitious goals, so oekonews.at . The initiative is offset by the commitment of Ikea to actively shape a greener future and make sustainable decisions to the customer: to facilitate inside.
