Putin's secrets revealed: Sabine Adler on the situation in Russia
FULDA – A spectacle of information! The courageous journalist Sabine Adler presented her latest work “What will happen to Russia? – About a nation between war and self-destruction” on Wednesday evening at the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Fulda. Over 100 interested people crowded into the Bonifatiushaus to gain an explosive insight into the machinations of the Russian despot Vladimir Putin. Gunter Geiger, head of the academy, greeted the crowd with a wink: “If the organizers have to drag chairs, that’s always the best sign.” A clear indication of the burning interest in Adler's second book about Russia!
Dedicated insights into Putin's regime
Adler, an award-winning journalist, painted a bleak picture of Putin's "mafia state." She shed light on his power-hungry machinations, starting with his criminal seizure of power in the late 90s. “This circle around Putin has set out to change not only the balance of power, but also the balance of ownership,” she said, highlighting the opaque entanglements of oligarchs and media control. The reporter explained that reporting from Russia was almost impossible: "I didn't even try. I'm not tired of life." But how does she get her explosive information? Through an extensive network of informants that she has trained across the country.
Important topics such as the future of the country and potential prospects for democratic change were also the focus of the exciting discussion. Despite the adverse circumstances, there are still “few beacons” of press freedom, as Adler emphasized. The atmosphere of dialogue continued after her talk, as those present were given the opportunity to ask the author direct questions. This event was organized by the Catholic Academy of the Diocese of Fulda, the Karl Hermann Flach Foundation and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, the latter of which was represented by Amelie Kreuter.
