On January 7, 2025, the North Sea coast was affected by a storm surge caused by the storm “Bernd”. The German Weather Service (DWD) has already warned of a storm surge on January 8th, with flood levels of up to 1.5 meters above normal levels expected. The East Frisian coast, the Weser and Elbe areas are particularly affected, while in Hamburg the water at the fish market rose to 3.74 meters above sea level, which corresponds to more than 1.60 meters above mean high water. The storm surge warning is in effect until around 10 a.m. on the morning of January 8th.
